Myotherapy is a complementary therapy using primarily massage techniques to help achieve balance in your dog’s body, assisting chronic musculoskeletal conditions & associated pain, improving health both physically & psychologically.

What conditions can canine myotherapy help?

  • Repetitive strains

  • Lameness – new or old, possibly unknown cause

  • Muscle, ligament, tendon strains

  • Stiffness after rest or exercise

  • Reduced activity levels / less wanting to play

  • Change in behaviour, for example difficulty getting into the car or up or downstairs

  • Hip / elbow dysplasia

  • Spinal conditions

  • Osteoarthritis

  • Emotional issues
    And more…..

It is very common for there to be an unaddressed muscular imbalance that is causing stiffness or lameness. He/she “is just getting old” does not always have to be the answer…

It is important to have a vet referral to make sure that there are no other underlying issues. All dogs must be referred by a vet in accordance with Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966.

How can myotherapy help?

The aim to assist your dog with good posture & balanced gait through the release of tension in muscle & other tissues thereby easing chronic muscular & joint pain that is often underlying a lot of canine complaints. Stress can also be an underlying factor of tension and pain that can be helped at Wolfsong Myotherapy.

Old muscle trauma that has resulted in the tissues becoming shortened or chronically contracted can present as a limp or other signs of pain such as a change of behaviour. All systems of the body are interrelated linking the muscular system to the respiratory or digestive system & so myotherapy is the perfect therapy to help generate balance in your dog’s body.

Like us humans, our dogs can generate compensatory issues. This can be from:

  • An emotional tension being held within their body

  • An old muscular strain that had appeared to self-resolve just through rest & not received myotherapy treatment

  • A joint problem related to an injury, congenital or degenerative problem
All these factors can result in pain, which will further affect freedom of movement and indeed behaviour.
